Two-car accident kills three, injures one

Traffic accidents may occur in a matter of seconds, but they often leave physical and mental scars that last a lifetime. A recent collision in Tampa at the intersection of Linebaugh Avenue and Sheldon Road showed how the few seconds of a traffic accident can have a devastating impact on several lives.

The accident

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, a Chevy Malibu was heading north on Sheldon Road at about 5:00 a.m. The Malibu failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Sheldon and Linebaugh and was struck by a Nissan Altima that was eastbound on Linebaugh.

The impact of the collision caused the driver of the Malibu to lose control and hit a utility pole. The impact caused the driver and two passengers to be ejected from the car. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with serious injuries.

Damages

The sheriff’s office has not released any details of their investigation. Neither alcohol nor drugs has been mentioned as a potential cause. The driver of the Malibu is most likely to bear a significant share of the cause for the accident because the Nissan had a green light and the right-of-way. However, the accident investigators must determine the speeds of the two vehicles immediately before the collision occurred. If the Nissan was traveling at an excessive speed, the driver of that vehicle may be assessed a significant share of fault.

Way forward

Anyone who has been injured or lost a loved one under similar circumstances may wish to consult an experienced accident attorney. A knowledgeable lawyer can provide an analysis of the evidence, an estimate of the likelihood of recovering damages for medical expenses, lost income and pain and suffering, and assist in negotiating with insurance companies.
